Strip club owner charged after police raid

Organizers of a series of stripper shows in Thorold South over the weekend are reportedly filing a complaint against Niagara Regional Police.

They say cops were heavy-handed in a check of dancers' licenses Friday night at the Penthouse Club on Lundy's Lane.

More than 40 strippers from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal had travelled to the region to be part of the show. The headliner was Nikki Benz, an adult film star & 2011's Penthouse Pet.

Kevin, who was acting as Benz's personal security for the weekend tells 610 CKTB's Tim Denis the club was chaotic as police swarmed in.

Kevin says 9 male officers & 1 female officers rounded up the dancers to have a bylaw officer check their documentation. That brought the action on stage to a standstill with more than 300 customers watching. Benz's feature performance was delayed.

While licenses were being checked, Kevin describes a scuffle between the club's owner, Simo Rudan & police. In a release, Niagara Regional Police allege Rudan was trying to block officers from doing their compliance checks. Rudan was charged with obstructing or disobeying a peace officer.

Cops say one of their officers suffered a minor knee injury in the dust-up.
