Chaos at Phoenix strip club ends with man dead

A shooting, an attempted armed robbery and a fire at a strip club early Monday morning ended with one man dead.

Employees at Lacey's Gentleman's Club in Phoenix told police a 33-year-old man was upset after a dancer, who provided a private dance for him, refused a sexual solicitation. They said the man left, came back with a handgun and attempted to rob the club.

The dancer and another woman escaped to the roof of the club on Weldon Avenue near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road, where they called police.

Police arrived around 4 a.m., said Detective James Holmes.

After officers helped the two women from the roof, the club manager ran across the roof followed by the gunman, who fired shots at him, police said.

Holmes said an officer fired at the suspect, who fled back into the club and apparently set a fire, which was put out by the club's sprinkler system.

Police said they found the suspect, who has not been identified, on the floor in the manager's office. He was pronounced dead at 7:10 a.m. Authorities said the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with no evidence that he was struck by police gunfire.
