Council yet to shed light on strip club snub
Wagga Wagga City Council has voted against approving a controversial strip club but it is yet to come up with its reasons.
A packed public gallery welcomed the vote last night. Police are concerned about increased road trauma, sexual assaults and the possibility of organised crime if a brothel in Reidell Street is granted approval to convert to a licensed strip club. A council committee had recommended approval but the motion was rejected last night on Mayor Kerry Pascoe's casting vote, after a five-all deadlock. Councillor Pascoe says a new report will now be prepared on the possible reasons for refusing the application. "My opinion last night was that I don't want a strip club in Wagga and that's the way I voted and I will have to wait now for the independent report to come in to see whether I can use the vote again in the same way," he said. | |||||
