E. Kingston officer arrested for off-duty fight outside strip club
EAST KINGSTON – An off-duty East Kingston police officer is facing assault charges after a fight early yesterday morning in Salisbury, Mass., that left another man seriously injured.
Chad Larson, 29, of Newton, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (his foot) and aggravated assault and battery, said Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokesman for the Essex County District Attorney's Office. Larson is a full-time officer in East Kingston. July 20, 2010 east kingston 60px LARSON Another man, Seth Sanford, 30, of Salisbury, Mass., was also arrested on the same charges, Kimball Monahan said. Police were called to a parking lot across the street from Ten's Show Club, a local strip club, around 1:50 a.m. Monday to investigate a report of a fight, Kimball Monahan said. Kimball Monahan said Larson and Sanford were arrested. A third man, Christopher MacRae, 22, of Haverhill, Mass., was airlifted to a Boston hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Kimball Monahan said. MacRae's condition was not known last night. Larson and Sanford were arraigned in Newburyport District Court yesterday and are being held without bail in a Massachusetts jail pending a dangerousness hearing tomorrow. An employee at Ten's said the club closes at 1 a.m. and he was there until about 2 a.m.; he said no fight occurred in the club's parking lot. He said there were "several fights" in a parking lot across the street from Ten's. The worker said he saw several police cruisers in that parking lot shortly before he left for the night. It is the second Bay State arrest of an off-duty New Hampshire police officer this month. On July 13, off-duty Kingston police officer Joshua Wallar was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Wallar allegedly used a Taser on a Lawrence, Mass., police officer who was scuffling with a pregnant woman. Wallar has been suspended without pay while Kingston police conduct an internal investigation. Salisbury police could not be reached for comment on the more recent incident. East Kingston Police Chief Reid Simpson was also unavailable for comment on Larson's status with the department. Selectman David Pendell Jr. said only that he was aware of the incident. Selectmen were expected to meet last night for a regular board meeting, but Pendell, who said he didn't know specific details, wasn't sure if the matter would be discussed. | |||||
